I need to pull my rear shaft to grease the centering ball and front joint. I can't reach them W/O pulling the shaft. Thought while the shaft was out I would swap out the rear joint. A couple of the trunions are not taking grease.
So what do you like the greaseable or NON greaseable? I have been using Spicer but was wondering about the other brands out there. What do you like and where are you getting them?

Non greasable for a few reasons. Zerks tend to get forgotten, the seals on the non greasable are usually better, and having a grease vien go through the body certainly isn't making it stronger.
Unless you can afford CTM's.... :naughty:

I didn't know that Jack made driveshaft joints? I thought it was just the axle joints.
I know that J.E. Reel has some H20 proof joints that are a alloy and have been cryo'd for the DS. But they are $55.00 EA.
I ran his H20 Proof joints in the front axle for a while. I did not have any problems.
Good points on the NON greasers.

I just had my DS rebuilt last Monday and the guy put all Spicer greasables in. If I would have known the above at the time, I'd of gone non greasables. I plan on replacing my front ones soon enough, I'll look into 'em

Hmm, I just assumed they did. I just saw my buddy's D44 joints from them and I was very impressed (with everything but the pricetag!)

i just put precision gear u joints in mine, non greasable, with lifetime warranty...we also cleaned all the grease out of them and repacked them with

There is no way a CTM style joint would survive a driveshaft. You would have to grease them every 15 minutes ;)
Regular old spicer joints work fine for driveshafts. I prefer greasable, and never broke any even with my big CJ.

I had a dodge 2500 CTD with a carrier bearing in the back giving me 3 Ujoints, every year I had to replace all 3, I always went to the greaseable Ujoints and lubed then once a month, after about the 9th month 1 by 1 they would stop taking grease and about 3 months after that they ceized up and fall apart. I used the truck as a daily driver and only hauled stuff about twice a year. A guy at Napa told me to try a non greasable joint and so I replaced only 1 of the 3 with a non greaseable Ujoint and the other 2 greaseable, about a year later the 2 greaseable failed and the nongreaseable was still tight and smooth, I replaced the failled Ujoints with nongreaseable and never had another trouble. The nongreasable Ujoints I purchased weren't even the highest quality ones, They were the middle of the road ones. I do live in pennsylvania where we put road salt thicker than than the fallen snow, so maybe this has something to do with my results also. Well take what you want from this info! I also have a similair story about ball joints!

My experience has been that the greasable ones stop taking grease after a while, or it stops getting to all the caps, so greasable becomes non-greasable and then they fail.

I thougt about going with the CTM when I upgraded my joints. But they are a bit to pricey for me. I went with the Bobby Longs instead.

I have been using the Lucas Xtra HD in all my D/S and shackles, and steering tie rods. For my axle joints I went with Green Grease.
I think I might try giving the NON greasers a try.

Well, I pulled the shaft today. Good thing I did, one of the U bolts was not tight at all. The other side was good. A good reminder to everyone to crawl under there junk and check these things every now and again. The CV joints and centering ball took a fair amount of grease as well. I took the caps off the diff U joint. Only 1 cap was getting grease. The others had grease but it was not fresh at all. So I am going with a NON greaser this time.
