Title: A toast to the CHP
Post by: Mr_Random on April 02, 2009, 04:09:10 AM
They got me!

I'm gonna stick to driving the Jeep EVERYWHERE now, there is no way it'll run over the speed limit in the laguna mountains... What does 35mpg mean in a civic when I'm gonna pick up a $(insert for now unknown fee) speeding ticket because it's just too easy?

How many of you have come to the same realization? I'm giving the little fast car back to my parents and sticking with the cheep, I'm gonna live my life in the slow lane from now on... Save the speeding ticket $$ for upgrades to the XJ!

goodnight!

The realization that I'd come to is that kids drive civics and police are more likely to pull over kids ;)   For bonus points, did it have a fart can muffler, plastic wing or a stereo that could be heard before he saw the car?   :wall:

Ha, no, completely stock... not even a new deck! 20db louder and a dragging A** at speed does NOT mean more power...

Yes, I'm a kid technically though, so you're good on that stereotype...

I never said speed machine, haha... it's definately faster than the jeep though!

It's faster than any of our other vehicles... the only one capable of 100+, heck the jeep and the suburban's speedo's top out at 85, haha.

Now... to figure out what to do about the citation... I can't tell whether it was misdemeanor or infraction, the copy he gave me isn't very visible... Jeffy, you hail from cali, right?

Probably infraction, unless you were going WAY too fast...

I got tagged back in November for "no front license plate"  After the cop was writing me the ticket I asked him "So was that really the reason you pulled me over?" He said "Yes, it was. And it looked like you were going a little fast... But these Jeeps bounce around on rough roads like this and it looked like you were going a little fast, but you were going the speed limit"

It does feel like you're going faster than you think in a Heep, but not overly fast... I don't speed around town but when taking a highway trip somewhere I have a bad habit of doing 80+. And yes, my 4 banger can manage those speeds  :smokes:

Well, it will depend on a lot of other things.  School Zone, Posted Speed, How fast you were clocked at, if the officer recalibrated often, etc...

Laguna mountains going to San Diego, I was accelerating up a hill and neglected to let off once I got to the top... My cruise control doesn't do that great in the mountains, and I tend to lead-foot it when my CC isn't on. But anyways, I was caught doing twenty over, 92 in a 70 zone. It was an obvious speed trap, and right after the Golden Acorn casino, so he was expecting someone drunk. It was about twelve at night. He obviously saw I was real sorry and surprised, so I'm thinking Infraction.

Sorry, I'm new to this stuff... haha, obviously...

Ironically, if I was doing 92 heading to Phoenix rather than SD, I'd only be going seven over... and would barely be keeping up with the flow!

Well, 22mph is kinda high but then you were going down hill, I suspect.  The old rule of thumb is to go no more then 10 over as that was what they set their radar guns for when they were in auto mode.  Now a days they have to do it all manually and are supposed to recalibrate after every use and before going on the job.

I think it will be an infraction.  Hopefully it's your first and you will be let off with a fine and the option to get the points waved if you waste a day in driving school watching boring videos.

I think all over CA if you're going 25 MPH or less over the speed limit, it's simply an infraction that's correctable by traffic school. At least around here it is. You should be fine  :thumb:

Well I don't know what the term truly means, but since he was at the bottom of a downhill that was right after a really steep uphill, and right after a casino, it seemed like a "trap" to me! It's logical to think that that would be an ideal place to catch an ignorant speeder.

First offense, I'm expecting just a fine and traffic school to erase the point. I read there is online traffic school, that would be convenient because I'm an insomniac anyways, so it wouldn't disrupt my work days!
