Title: gearing question
Post by: 90jeepyj on December 23, 2005, 12:18:19 PM
I'm turbocharging my 2.5 running at 15lb of boost so I'll be running in the 250-300hp range

And I was wondering what gearing should I run for 35" goodyear wrangler MTR? The turbo Starts to create boost at 2200 rpm.
And I'm upgrading to a ford 8.8 rear end

So I just do not want the motor screaming down the highway after I regear.

Thanks

You could probably run 4.56's or 4.88's without limiting the top end.  With 4.56's you should be able to keep it over 70mph without a problem.

I was thinking 4.88's but Jeff prolly knows better than I.

Well, I'm currently runngin 4.56's and it bareable.  If I had a Turbo or SC, I'd probably be happy with what I've got.  Think of it this way.  How would you gear a 4.0L.  For 35's you could run 4.56's or 4.88's.  4.56's would leave the top end open.  Honestly, I'd gear it so the top end at redline would be around 85 or even 80.  Then you'd have enough torque to cruse at the higher speeds without having to wait for the engine to get into the power band.  I doubt you'd want to go faster then 80mph anyway.
