have a chance to pick up a 2.5 out of a 98 tj to fit into a 95 yj. im think they are compatible- am i correct?

Yes, but the fuel rails are different so keep the YJ setup.
There's a chance belt routing may be different, late '95 YJ's are the same as a TJ and early '95s are like the earlier YJ's.

The Cam's are a bit different as well.  Should drop in and bolt up though.  Swap over your old fuel rail and it should be good.

ok, well i was thinking about buying it and getting it rebuilt, so cams and such should be ok. as well my jeep is a later yj. so in theroy it should be fine? just double checking.

If it's cheap and in good shape buy it already.  You can work around everything else.
