Well after 3 years of owning my Jeep... I've decided to really find out how much mpg or gpm I am getting... So, I filled me up a 1 gallon fuel can and put it in the back of the jeep *my tops off with my bikini, wind jammer and desk cover on* and drove it until she died....
*Note: She hasn't died yet...
Some info:
1999 TJ
2.5L 5 Spd
4 inch Susp. lift
31x 10.5 Tires
4.11 gears
8000 LB Winch on front
Shifting at 3 grand
18 Gallon tank
Day one: Gas light came on at approx 235 miles off a full tank.
Day two: Took the harley to work
Day three: Drove the Jeep to work, ended with 255 miles
Day 4: Drove to work, picked up a co worker, went back to work, went home, went back to work, went home, ended with 288 miles....
And I'll repost tomorrow with more results...as of now, im getting 16 mpg

Have you corrected your speedo or how are you ensuring that your mileage calculations are accurate for the oversized tires?

I'm not really sure your way of counting mpg is really all that accurate. What I've always done, and this way takes time, is everytime you fill up record how many gallons you put. Zero the trip odometer and once you fill up again check the mileage and zero it again. At this point you have a good estimate, do it over 10 tanks and you'll have a really good estimate of your actual mpgs.

I agree this is the most accurate and easiest albeit time consuming.
