Hi, i'm living in the Netherlands and we do not have many wranglers for sale. I can buy a really wel maintained 2.5 from 1994 with only 69.000 km's on the odo. The problem is, the wrangler is standing on 33inch with the original 4.1 gearing and therefore lacks power. Regearing to 4.88 will be a slight problem, everything has to be bought from the usa throug the internet and being shipped to europe. Because the freeway in the Netherlands meens driving 120kmh wich is 75mph it will not cope with the other traffic.
Now i'm reading al these articles in this great website about supercharger and turbo conversions. With a turbo conversion you will always need a oil and water suplly for the turbo. Superchargers also need oil. Superchargers are more easy to install because they do not need much manifold modifications.
In europe were sold many VolksWagen Polo G40 cars. These little nippy 1.3 liter 8 valve engine's had a small supercharger called G-Loader. They last about 50.000km's before a rebuild (which can be done at home for about 100 euro (120 usd). They are belt driven and do not need oil/water. On that small 1.3 liter engine they create 14psi. So on a 2.5 liter engine there would be 8 psi left. They are not larger than an alternator.

on the last picture you can spot the gloader just below/infront of the alternator.
My question is;
Will a 2.5liter wrangler yj with supercharger drive 75mph (with smaller 31inch wheels) so is the power suffient.
Mounting the G40 will not be a problem, welding a mount, find some silicon hoses. What modification's need to be done to the electrics and can a normal throtlebody being used?

6-8psi is what most people consider good for a stock engine. I suspect you'll still want to run some type of engine management to control the air/fuel ratio while on boost. This is probably the biggest problem to overcome. Split second or Megasquirt are the common units people have been using. Check out st.chevrolet's Turbo project as he has documented many of the problems he's come across while setting his up.
I'd be interested to see more Centrifugal supercharger projects.

I did not buy the jeep yet because I want to learn a bit more about it this weekend. If it cannot be done i'm not going to buy that jeep and will need to search again in hope of finding a 4.0i. There are 4.0i versions in NL but they coast 2000 euro more and they are completely stock while this 94 2.5i is complete with 33inch, 3 inch lift, winch, bull/sidebars hardtop and so on. If i bought a 4.0i, i had to invest not only in the extra money for the jeep, but another 2000 for the extra options like the lift and so on. So to compare i have a bit of money to spend to make up for the power difference.
At least there has to be installed an wideband o2 sensor. Then first of all change the mapsensor to a 2 bar version and make it ajustable with a potentiometer and a few larger injectors. Because the supercharger will build up pressure linear to the rpm instead of a turbo wich boost from about 2500rpm it should be easyer to fake the original computer.
If i'm wrong with this latest idea pleas let me know. And excuse me for my spelling errors, i'm not using english on text a lot.

yes its a good looking yj...and i was in germany before for 2years and they were few and far between. no offense but thats alot of dead weight sitting on the front. What do emissions allow you to do over there? Do you have to pass a sniffer test? Is there rules on swapping motors. Maybe rebuild with a stroke it attitude and be abgle to get 190hp out of rebuilt block and be able to open hood at inspection and say its just the stock 2.5
-
It has to pass APK every year. As long as it stayes a 4banger and it lookes original from the outside there is no problem. There is a sniffertest. But that one is easy to pass around. We had a opel monterey V6 running op lpg (liquid gas) and everey year we let the engine run very lean (just turning 2 screws just before the test) than test it, apk ok, return the screws the other way and thery i go.

Looks good. Also your text is better than a lot that are suppose to speak and write English as a first language!

There is a 4x4 place in Germany somewhere that sells tons of Jeep stuff, you should be able to get gears from there. Er is in Duitsland een 4x4 bedrijf dat een hoop Jeep offroad onderdelen verkoopt. De differenteel gearing veranderen en een super charger zou toch echt wel de beste oplossing zijn/

Thanks for the info and even in Dutch!
Bedankt voor de info!
At the moment i'm negociating with a dealer about a 4.0 Hi output. Maybe this is a better alternative.
