So I did a bit of work today, and installed the new front bumper and the winch... I like the look of it now!!! I also installed the new bump stops (poly, for 4" of lift; there was some rust under the old front ones, so that got cleaned and painted) and the Warn PS skid got installed.

The other thing I was wondering (just to make sure) is that I was a bit surprised the bumper is held in place by only 4 bolts... Granted, they are 1/2 inch grade 8 bolts, but still, the rear bumper has about 10 bolts. I guess the fact that these are vertical (two on the top and two onthe bottom) makes it a strong set-up (after all, the winch itself is held onto the bumper with 4 smaller bolts), but still, I just wanted to make sure this was a strong setup...
I also went out and did a pull of the entire length of the line to tighten it on the drum. It was on flat land with the e-brake on, and not problems on the pull. I am really happy with this setup... Also checked the voltage; on idle, it drops significantly, but if I rev the engine up to a bit under 1,500 RPMs, it maintains 14V no problem when pulling.

PS: I also have on order 5 BFG 33 X 12.5 R15 MT KM2 and some Warn trail flares (I am tired of the water splashing on me with the 31's, and with the 33's it was only gonna get worse!), so they should go on in a couple of weeks! This rig is ending up quite nice if I do say so myself!

Look's good except for those square headlight's! ;)
What brand is that bumper?
This x-mas I will be rolling on some 33's myself and some Xenon 6" flat flares and a Warn M8000. That leaves new Axles and lockers then I think I'm done? ::)

:hitit: looks good! Looks like a smiling bug! :)

Again the square headlight discrimination shows its ugly face!!! :twofingers:
The bumper is a Hanson Offroad bumper... And I had it Line-X'ed.
Cant wait to get the tires on!

And you have not seen it from the side; then it REALLY looks like a bug with the hood mounted lights!

I like the bumper. Which Trail Flares did you get, YJ? Those are the ones I have.

Looked like a Hansen bumper at first glance. The "nose job" definitely made your Jeep look much better! Good choice on the bumper, line-x looks killer as well :thumb:

i love the bumper. the jeep should look beastly with the 33x12.5 tires..

Agree with Smashcoat! :stick:

Yup, I got YJ flares... They are suppossed to be 7 inches wide, so they should cover most if not all of the new tires...i love the bumper. the jeep should look beastly with the 33x12.5 tires..
I sure as heck hope so! But I agree, I think it will....

By the way, some comments on the bumper:
- Shape is VERY well thought out to maximize clearanc and approach angles, as well as to maximize airflow to the radiator (winch is dropped as low as possible) and slightly lower the center of gravity
- Shackle mounts are 1" wide, so they are STRONG; they are also welded to 2 of the angles, but dont go through completely like the Shrokworks I was planning on getting originally...
- Also, the rear is open, but I dont mind, as the bumper feels quite strong (everything is 3/16 steel)... Also, all the angles help give it strength.
But my other question still remains; are 4 half inch grade 8 bolts (all vertical and tying it to the frame directly, 2 on top and 2 on bottom) enough to hold a winch pull from the mud, or being pulled out of the mud by another vehicle? As I mentioned, I think it is (after all there are only 4 bolts holding the winch to the bumper, and they are smaller in diameter), but I rather check because the rear bumper is held in place by 10 bolts (granted, only 2 are going to the frame, and all the others are horizontal, so it is the thread of the bolt actually doing the pulling except for the 2 vertical ones). What do you all think?

Its enough. Been that way since the CJ's for sure.

Well, I have 35x12.5R15's and they're under the flares so I would think you'll be fine with your 33's. My wheels are 8" w/3.75" BS so they stick out pretty far.
-
Almost all winches are attached with the four top bolts. So it would seem four bolts are enough. However it is surprising that they chose not to use all 4 top bolts, seems it would have been just as easy as using just two of them.
-
Well, I contacted Hanson just to be sure, and they said that 4 bolts is correct; the TJ (LJ included) use 6 bolts (4 on top), but te YJ is only 2 on top. But they say with either grade 5 or grade 8 bolts, it will hold just fine (I am using grade 8).

You're using grade "cool" bolts? :stick: :weee:
