On the starter or the block?
-
in the block, above the starter
-
is it next to the dipstick?

I don't have a plug. Do I?
-
it sparks my interest - Barney, why don't you post a pic.
there's no plug on mine either, but it's a 95 YJ 2.5L - i didn't think they changed the block though :puzzled:
-
if you remove the starter, i have a rubber plug in the block, above the starter
-
i would post a pic, but i keep forgetting to take one while i have the starter out....
-
so it's behind the starter then (not above)?
-
not sure man ive got an 86 xj and have had the starter out a couple times recently and didnt notice nothing rubber. are u sure its a plug and not some sort of rigging someone stuck there as a shim? although i doubt it. did you pull it or anything? my block gets real hot, would defiantly damage a rubber plug if i had one.
-
above the starter, i tried to pry it out..wouldnt come out
-
did that bike ride jar your head or what :weee:
i had mine out the other day and saw no "rubber plug"
-
hmm, you positive is not some sort of a toy type of plug? :roflol:
-
:naughty:
-
ok pulled the starter and took a pic....

this is a guess but i think it's just a plug to not have water dripping on the starter - i think that hole is for factory handling during machining process - they need pilot holes to align and fix the block solid during the bore-out process of all the precision areas for the crank, cam, cylinders (but i can't tell for sure, so don't take the plug out :D)
-
why would they have a plug to prevent water from dripping on the starter when oil dumps on it when you take the oil filter off??? but you could be right
-
its not in any kind of channel...i tried to pull it out and nothing came out, couldnt get the plug out either....almost like it was attached inside the block.

i dunno then, i've seen those holes on other blocks too but no plugs on them
