Title: CJ Tailgate on a TJ Question
Post by: hippiejesse on September 20, 2009, 09:27:08 AM
Hey, I have been thinking to put on a CJ tailgate. Like this
http://jp.automotive.com/26348/154-0707-jeep-tailgate-conversion-6-half-steps-to-bliss/index.html

I am worried about cutting into the rear of the body, would this change the structural integrity? I have to cut the box like structure on the rear of the body to bolt up the hinges. If you have an Idea around this, let me know. Otherwise, is this a bad Idea?

Thanks.

I like this one...uses the stock door...and you can get "non-spiderweb" hardware from him if you want....

I like the Idea of JEEP on the back, and the seamless looks of a CJ gate. The internal latch isn't a big deal to me, I use my softop most of the time, and can eiter have someone push it up while I latch it, or install a handle inside when the hardtop is on.

You could also simply make one of these will bolt to the holes for the spare tire mount

My Jeeping buddy made this from some scrap aluminum he had laying around.
No mods to the body needed and gives you a table
