I'm still debating whether to go the lazy route and go with a flex-a-lite complete kit (I have a credit at 4wheel parts that would cover over half of it) or do the Taurus with a DC controller, which would cost about the same but require making brackets, etc. Then I read on another forum that an e-fan from an '04 - '06 2.4l TJ will bolt right up and have the coolant and PS mounts. Has anyone tried this?

Have not tried the TJ, but I would go with FoMoCo and DCC. It will pull less amps (soft starts) and can pull more air if needed... FoMoCo can move up to 4,000CFM, and I think Flex-a-lite is something like 2,700CFM IIRC.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna scrap the '04-'06 TJ idea. The only used one I could locate is in Kentucky for $100.00 plus shipping. The stealership wants $525.00 for a new one! Plus, I'd still have to get the DC controller and the connector for the fan.

My FoMoCo Taurus fan was a whopping $28 at the U-Pick... You can run it off a relay for about $50 until you can get the DCC box... Mine keeps the 4-banger cool even in low speed, so no need for a huge relay. I actually have a relay to turn on the low speed, the DCC attached to the high speed, and a 3 position switch to choose which one to use (so I have AUTO, OFF, ON) and if the DCC controller ever fails out in the trail (which I doubt, because it has worked flawlessly so far) I have a redundant system to keep my engine cool.

The only two 'brackets' I had to make for my Taurus fan was taking two small L brackets, easily found at the hardware store, and bending them so the ends are a little farther apart. Then one side attaches to the fan shroud and the other to the OEM hole in the radiator support.
Being a TJ, you may need more to support the PS reservoir and coolant overflow bottle.

1600 cfm seems to work fine for me even on those 98 degree windless days stuck in traffic. No shroud either. Probably could have gotten by with even less.
Get a controller that ramps up the fan speed when it starts. I didn't and my idle stumbles for a split sec whenever it kicks on from the inrush current.

I picked up a fan for $15 and a handfull of oem 70amp relays for $10 at my local pick a part. I have mine wired High Off Low, I would like to get a good controller one of these days.

I know, the FoMoCo fan sounds like the best bet - plentiful and cheap. It's just that I've had a very poor track record with Ford products over the years, plus the thought of a fan out of something as ugly as a '95 Taurus going into this jeep appalls me. Maybe if I refer to it as a Lincoln fan I'll feel better.

They have a solid track record in everything from hot rods, to 4x4's. BTW: the Lincoln fan MK 8 is not the same as the Taurus fan.

They're similar but not the same. The motors have different pn# IIRC. Then you have the size of the fan, 16" vs 18"

the lincoln motor is also bigger (and higher amps as well) and flows more cfm but it is oversized for the 2.5L - even at 1/2 speed should still have plenty of flow for the 4 banger (i think at full speed it is over 4000cfm if i remember correctly)
