Does anyone know what size thread the three screws / bolts are that fasten the rear lights on a TJ? The other evening I installed a pair of the Smitty Built light guards. The guards themselves are great, but the longer screws that came with them are junk. They will just barely hand tighten before they strip and the originals are too short to grab. According to the "thread sizes for dummies" board at the hardware store, 5mm X.8 was too small, 6mm X 1.0 was too big and 12-24 was just right. So, after paying through the nose for six 12-24 cap screws, come to find out they won't fit. Ahrrggg!

If I remember correctly 6 mm with a pitch of 1

i thought the same but am not sure (more than 1 year since i took those off).

Unfortunately, 6mm X 1.0 is too big. the 12-24 gets about 1 1/2 threads in then starts to jam. It's weird that the factory bolt fit the 12-24 thread tester just fine at the store. I'm looking for a 5.5mm now, or I might just drill them out and re-tap for a 1/4-20.

Even better, FYI Six States has pretty good pricing on all manner of LED lighting in the Portland Store.
