Post by: zowtiak on January 08, 2010, 11:06:59 AM
on a 95 yj....I know it comes of, as i see bolts. if i take the 6 big bolts of the sides will it drop, will my tranny drop, is it attached to the tranny with the 2 bolts in the middle, will my head pop off if i take this off and look behind it?

The skid plate holds the trans and tcase up.  Iff I remember right, there should be 3 bolts holding the skid to the tranny/torque arm.

So don't take the 6 frame bolts out without doing something to support the tcase

put a jack under the transmisson close to the bellhousing and lift it slightly (use a piece of plywood or 2x4 on top of the jack), the motor mounts and the jack will keep it from coming down on you. Prior to that take the bolts/nuts off the crossmember that hold the tranny mount and the torque arm (not sure if the auto is the same as manual but in the latter case there are 3 of them). then you can take the 6 bolts that go in the frame out and remove the crossmember.
