:puzzled:
Good morning everyone,
Sorry for such a long post but I am a little baffled here. I Picked up a hard top fron my yj and the wiring harness to go with it. The question i have is does anyone have the wiring schematic for the dome light, rear wiper, and rear window defroster? I have been at this with my trusty meter for a couple of days now and have got the tail lights and blinkers wired but can not figure out the rest. The wiring harness that i picked up has the black and the gray connector under the dash with the defrost timer wired in (red relay) I also have the switches for the dash from the same jeep. Here is what the wiring colors are for the connectors under the dash and hard top wiring.
Black connector under the dash:
-White with tan stripe (goes to the back of jeep) tail lights
-purple with black stripe (goes to the back of jeep) tail lights
-gray with red stripe (goes to the back of jeep) tail lights
-black with yellow stripe (goes to the back of jeep) tail lights
-black with blue stripe (to the door switch)
-yellow (door switch and pig tails to the back of the jeep) what does it go to at the back of the jeep??????
-pink (goes to the back of the jeep) ???????????
-green with red stripe (seat belt)
-blue with white stripe (goes to the defrost relay)
-white with black stripe (goes to the e-brake pedal connection)
-black (pig tails to the defrost timer and the seat belt then to the back of the jeep) at the back it pigtails to 3 more
connections 2 go the tail lights where does the third go ????
-green with red stripe (goes to the back of the jeep) tail lights
gray connector under the dash:
-brown with yellow stripe (goes to the back of the jeep) ?????
-brown (goes to the defrost timer relay)
-blue with yellow stripe (goes to the defrost timer relay)
-black with white stripe (goes to the defrost timer relay)
-brown with red stripe (goes to the back of the jeep) ?????
-brown with green stripe (goes to the back of the jeep) ?????
hard top connector:
-brown with orange stripe ?????
-brown with white stripe ?????
-pink ????
-black ?????
-black with white stripe ????
-green with white stripe ????
-green ????
-gray with white stripe ????
Any help with where these wires with the ??? go or a wiring diagram would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance and again sorry for the long post.

Good morning everyone,
Sorry for such a long post [...]
download the FSM from the FAQ on this site - all the wiring is in there (including wire colors).

There should be a pre-wired plug on the harness and the top that go together.
They are in the left rear corner.
The 3rd brake light is not in that harness....FYI.
The wiper wiring for the rear is not intuitive, I tried to tap some power back
there at one point and found it uses a combination of supply and ground to
turn the wiper on and off... As well as needing like 4 wires? Too long ago so I dont recall.

IIRC, colors won't help much since they change year to year and you haven't told us what years you're dealing with.
What you probably want to do is seperate the duplicate wires in the harness and pull all of those out. It makes no senss to disconnect your existing working harness and replace them. All you would have to deal with are the wires for the wiper motor, dome light, defroster and washer tubes. This is really how the two systems are setup anyway, they are independent.

You will want to double check all of these with a Multi-meter of course.
