I posted my question on the yahoo group, but it seems like most everyone is switching over to the forums. So I am going to give it a shot over here.
I have a 95 yj, over the last few days it had some sputtering, then it would stall out, after hitting the higher RPMs (3k+)
I was thinking it was the cat, falling apart from the inside and clogging the exhaust. But someone else suggested it may be the fuel pump.
I think I can diagnose the cat ok, but I don't know how to tell whether the fuel pump is functioning properly or not (hoping for an easy check).
The last time the engine stalled out I was not able to restart it, it is getting spark, and air going it but when I crank it, it sounds like it is starved for air/fuel. Just looking for some thoughts on what this may be and how to diagnose it.

There are many people who are on the mailing list who aren't on the forums.  Only a few of us are on both.  I'm not sure why the list is so dead this week though.

Since you have a '95, it should store any error codes into memory.  I'd try to recover them and go from there.  My guess would be a CPS.  If the CPS goes bad, it will still usually work but barely.  At higher RPM's it will probably skip more and that will throw off the timing

In any case check the PCM for error codes and that should help localize the problem.

so I checked the engine codes and I got
12, 33, 15, 24, 55.

15 - I replaced the speedo gear a couple of months ago after the stock one busted, so for a day or so I was driving w/out a speedo but I don't know if that code has just not been reset or what the problem is there

24 - Says TPS over 4.96V. I guess this means the computor is saying it is requiring too much voltage to run the TPS? Not too long before I had this problem I installed a TB spacer, but I couldn't get the bolt spacers to fit so I just left the throttle cable guide lower. Now I am wondering if that is what is causing all this grief.

Well, if you look at the Poweraid TBS review I wrote, I did not raise the guide bracket.

Does the speedometer work?  Generally, the PCM should go into default mode if the speedometer does not work.  I've driven like this a few times with no problems other then a little loss of power.

yep the speedo works perfect, it is off from my gps by about 1-2mph.
So now I am a little stumped as to what could cause this problem. Would fuel pump failure trip a code? How about the cat clogging?

The same thing happend to my jeep it ended up being the fuelpump
