Title: YJ Add a leaf
Post by: AGUHR on February 10, 2010, 05:46:50 PM
I have a 2" Shack lift, can I also add a 1.25" add a leaf to add more lift? Or would there be other adjustments I would need to do?

you can add a leaf lift but that is a lot of shackle - do you have a 2'' shackle lift (that means 4'' over stock shackle) or a 1'' shackle lift (2'' over stock)? if it's the latter you're fine, if it's the 4'' over stock then i suggest rather getting a higher lift and reduce the shackle size (you're doing the work anyway). Also keep in mind that add a leaf will result in quite a stiff suspension (all the YJ lift kits are but this one in particular to compensate for the other leafs in the pack).

I used to run an AAL and the ride was horrid. I'd strongly recommend finding something else.

The short AAL's ride horrible but many of the long ones aren't too bad.  I make my own using a pair of used front springs from a YJ, gives 1.5" of lift and doesn't stiffen the ride.

With that much combined lift you will likely need longer shocks, a transfer case drop, and may need to adjust the brake lines.

AAL.... :nono:
TJ flares.... Cutting the sheet metal and adding the TJ flares will gain you about the same as the AAL without affecting the ride.

TJ Flares are what I will probably do, I didn't know what adverse effects or canges I would need - but all your thoughts make sense.

I've been looking for a used set locally and haven't been able to fine one yet.

thanks.

I ran TJ flares and AAL's for years, great combo for 32" tires without heavy modifications.  The 1.5" AAL made from a a pair of stock front springs does not stiffen your ride.
