Title: Ford 8.8
Post by: BlackYJ on January 17, 2006, 06:09:56 PM
I have been looking into doing a Ford 8.8 swap but one thing I am still confused about is where my driveshaft will have to be shortened.  I have searched and seen a couple saying yes and others saying no.  Can anyone here help me out.

It will depend on several factors.  Suspension lift, engine lift or tcase drop, location of the housing and what not.  Remember that the I6 AX15 drivetrain is the longest and the I4 AX5 is the shortest.  I believe the difference is close to 4" in the rear driveshaft length.

The pinion location will be higher and closer to the transfer case then with the D35c. But may work out fine with your current driveshaft.  What you're going to have to do it bolt up the axle and check it.

Oh and you can also adjust your axle location with adjustable perches.  Perches will usually have three holes instead of the one.  This allows the axle to be moved an inch in either direction.  You shouldn't have any problems from moving it since it's minimal.

I am currently running about 3-3.5" of suspension lift with a 1" t-case drop, but it sounds like from you guys are saying it should be okay.

Thanks

Well, it's hard to say without just trying it and seeing it it will work.
