Title: SYE Kits
Post by: TrailsLessTaken on March 30, 2010, 01:47:21 PM
Is there a difference in the SYE kits that are for sale or are they pretty much all the same and just go with the lowest price I find?

For the standard length kits - pretty much all the same and all the cheaper ones are made by Omix Ada.  I've installed several and had no issues with their kits.

There are several different ones out there.  The modified stock shaft, the 32 spline HD shaft and two super short shafts.  The best are the shorties as they will really give you all the room you can get out of them.  Problem is you will have to swap to an electronic pick-up and have to calibrate the pulse so your computer and speedometer will get the correct speed.  Dakota Digital sells a box for that.

Stick with a standard length SYE.  It's not worth the pain to try and convert a jeep with a cable type speedo to electronic for an extra couple inches of driveshaft length.

FYI: If you have a '91 then it's not mechanical.

You know the computer uses that signal in order for the engine to run at it's best.

Yeah it has been on the todo list. The lli nut on the piece that plugs in there broke and it only gets driven once a month for wheeling trips so it hasnt been that important at the moment.  I plan on getting it fixed after I do the sye, i just need to get this done so i can get rid of my vibrations
