I just made some tube doors for my YJ! i will post some pics and hope they get better reviews then my tweeters in the pvc tubes!
I am already to mount them except i am not sure how to keep the door closed! Anyone got any ideas on what they used? I have seen the gravity gate closers, but those work on the jeeps with the u-shaped latch. mine isd the big bolt latch.
Any help is always appreciated!

interested to see how they turned out - i want to make something similar but not sure how to bend the tubes without a tube bender - how did you do it?

for latches Sean (St.Chevrolet) used this (he made his out of square tubing, check his thread in the Member's Projects section - Sean's YJ turbo)
For latches I used latches off of S10 Blazer swing away tire carriers, they work great you just have to clearance the jaw opening a slight bit with a file.

i wish i could say i bent them myself, but i got the prebent from jeeptube.com. it was only $75+ shipping. I used an angle grinder to nothch the pipe and welded them up. I will post once they are done. I am going to get them Line-X'ed and readu for the road!

So lookin on there, they send you it looks like 3 pieces of tubing already bent to the angle you need, and you just cut it to whatever length you want to make the doors as tall or as short as you want?

Thats not a bad site after looking around on there and the prices I dont think are to bad to get the material you need already prebent and you have to do is weld it together. I tried building some tube fenders last summer using a conduit bender and a torch to try to heat the metal up so it would be easier to bend but it was to much of a pain. I might look in to doing the fenders if I can get the tube prebent for 80 bucks

What's the point of that style of door?

I would think for the doors removed feel of the open air with still some semblance of protection.

arm rest with see throughness / open air... something around there... id rather have my factory half doors, but that's just me...

I had half doors, couldn't stand them. Always smacking my elbows into them. I could understand if the tube doors were for protection, but the way they are built you wouldn't get any meaningfull protection from them.

For most, it will give them a place to put their arm. They're 'Safari' doors so they're designed to keep the rhino out. They have marginal protection value otherwise. Some people don't like the feel of driving with no doors on.

I'll bet they are working flawlessly then ;)

That is correct. it comes in 3 pieces for each door. the tube is heavy duty. I used an angle grinder to notch the ends for a tight fit and welded them up.
Why half doors? My wife feels secure with somewhat of a door. happy wife, happy life :)
