i own a 1998 jeep tj 2.5 whit a tired engine 277 xxx km on it runs good no smoke but bad engine lifter noise ore piston knock. i iam regarding doing a rebuilt but i just wonder what year engine kit wil fit :puzzled: i think the engine itself it the same 1983-200? ::) and it is just the fuel system that is changing .. annyway i want 030 over bore and head work whit a good cam .. is annybody can lead me witch cam should i buy whit not going nuts

I would stick with a TJ block as it will have the same cam. The AMC 2.5L goes all the way back to 1984.

connecting rod - piston - rocker arm - push rod from a 4.0 is it posible to put in a 4 cyl
4cyl 2.5L
bore=3.875''
stroke=3.1875
piston:
compression distance=1.580''
pin dia=0.931''
6cyl 4.0L
bore=3.875''
stroke=3.414
piston:
compression distance=1.585''
pin dia=0.931''
since they are different stroke the rod length will be different compared to the 4cyl/2.5L
the compression distance is also different, the piston might work with some modifications but i can't tell for sure.
i'm pretty sure the rockers and hydraulic lifters (tappets) are the same but i have no idea if the push rod is the same length, they are quite cheap new so might as well go with the correct ones.

i finis up putting my new old engine :whistle: and went for a litle try out -- nice smooth reving engine but i notice it was less powerfull tan my original one
maybe because it is a 95 block and i keep the red injector insted of my gray one i might go back to my gray ones i iam sure they ave more flow
by the way i open up my blown engine a found #4 piston skirt in the oil pan :yikes: thats is what hapend monday afternoon

'98 needs 23.2 lb/hr at 49 psi injectors, the '95 has 17.4 lb/hr at 39 psi which will only give you 19.5 lb/hr at 49 psi so you're quite short on fuel - you're way too lean so replace the injectors asap (you can damage the engine otherwise).
