Title: Front shackle/spring question
Post by: Complete Loser on July 18, 2010, 01:53:18 PM
What the heck? Is this factory? I have like no clearance in the front at all. Everyone calls me the ground hog... lol cause even when i cross a small creek (gutter we callem) i plow 2 spots out of the bank with these dam shackle drop thingys.

So, my (more important) question.

How do i remedy this problem, without losing height?
I cant just takem off, looks like suspension will be in the way.

Practical solutions are always welcome (in other words, im broke at the moment, make it cheap).   :thumb:

Whats SOA? Spring Over Axle?

That is in the plans.

Stock shackles are 4" eye to eye.  Anything more will be lift.  So if your shackles are 6" eye to eye then that's 2" difference which equates to 1" of actual lift.

Any tips on doing SOA in the front (dana 30)? Do i have to cut the perches off the axle housing?

You can leave them, but new ones will needed to be put on top of the axles. They are easy to cut off with a grinder and cutting wheel. Then use a flapper disk to clean it up.

I waited until March Madness at 4 Wheel Parts, got a complete 4" pro comp lift for 600 OTD.  SOA is good, but should be done with some new springs.  My OEM ones weren't sagging until I started actually driving my Jeep in the dirt.  They went almost flat after a few trips.  I think my jeep never saw anything but pavement and pot holes prior.

My 2 cents
