Hey all I havn't posted here in a while.
Im curious to know if anyone has done any of the Mopar cam upgrades or what other cam upgrades are there?
Also I saw the Jet chip module, is it worth it at all for the 200 sum bucks it is? Or what would be a good combo?
Right now Im running completely stock. I did have the air intake with a cone filter but I was getting shitty mpg for little to no change in performance. Now I have the stock intake on and am getting 19-22 mpg depending on how/where I drive.

I don't get 19-22 mpg if I'm being towed.
-
19-22???!!!! another one getting above 20mpg! how the hell are you people doing it???
-
maybe there using imperial gallons
-
A stock Jeep should get 18-21. Depending on how you drive, you can eek out a bit more.
-
Anything above 18 would be awesome!

+1 even running 31's highway i got that when I was stock.
I'm running bigger intake and a exhaust header now 4.88's and 33x12.5lt15's
and I don't drive far enough most times highway to figure it out anymore.
I run mainly out in the bush or to work and back witch isn't far from home.

If you don't drive above 55mph getting 18 shouldn't be a problem. When the speed limit was 55 MPH, I was able to get well into the 20's with 32's.
With the speed limit at 65 MPH, and with 35's, I have a hard time getting over 18. I averaged 18 when I was commuting 40 miles. Now that I'm mainly driving just a few miles (7-14), I'm getting around 15-17.

I got 23?? on my first long trip after picking up the Jeep...bone stock from VA to MI...January 2007?

but I the question of the thread was getting more out of the 4bangner no? do you mean more mpg's or power?
power the big tb helps some but is mainly throttle response and top end
gears help a lot.
cams and such I haven't tried personal but if you can get one I'm told it helps but you need to do the hole valve train as well to see big gains
supper chips and stuff not sure how much they actually help. in my yj there not really available so I haven't gone that route.
but most of the upgrades will cost you fuel econ if you like to use the power

Honestly, this thread is a bit too generic and nost of which have other threads going. With that said, if I had the mods I do now on a stock Jeep, I'd be cruising.

I'm thinking about doing an overhaul on mine; I think all the mods I have HAVE helped get more out of the Jeep, but my little 4 banger should give me A LOT more if it where up to par...

what do you mean by that? if you had your mods on a newer jeep it would work better?
-
i think he meant with the power mods he has today if his Jeep had no lift and stock tires...

Exactly. If I was on maybe 2.5" lift, 31's and a lot less ballast, I think my Jeep would be pretty quick.
-
My engine was pretty much stock and I was getting 18-22. But that was when I first picked it up a couple years ago. I've left everything stock, but its getting pretty high in miles...I dropped down to about 15-16...and then I sucked a valve. I think it was just the process of dying.

well since it's pretty much on topic, what power mods do you have on that jeep jeffy?

i have a stock '99 2WD 4Door, and I was getting pretty good gas mileage. It was pretty hard to get up to speed getting on the highway with our short on-ramps. I cut the stock muffler off and replaced it with a straight-thru glasspack, and put on a conical K&N air filter. I've seen a pretty good increase in throttle response and power, and it took just a slight bit out of the mileage. Of course, I don't carry around a lot of anything in the jeep, just a 2-ton jack (the stock one isn't worth carrying), jumper cables and a car seat in the back. So cut back on the weight, and you'll see a small gain in both. Does very good down at the river, too.
