Title: Exhaust ID
Post by: enginethatcould on August 19, 2010, 07:20:08 AM
Does anyone know the inside diameter of the stock exhaust? My jeep is at my dads house and I will not be able to mesure until Saturday. TIA!

if i remember correctly it is 2-1/4 OD, ID is usually 1/8'' less or something like that. it's measured OD unless it's an adapter then you have ID-ID or ID-OD, you get the idea

Many stock jeeps are 2.25" before the cat and 2.5" after.  Or maybe it's before and after the muffler, not sure.

yeah, just looked at some exhaust parts online and it does say 2.5'' OD for the tailpipe but couldn't find anything for the cat outlet/muffler inlet OD. the downpipe and cat inlet are 2-1/4 (EDIT: in my case are 2-1/4 - i have a pacesetter header and downpipe, can't tell you for sure if that is the stock now that i think about it).

you can probably use some of your existing downpipe, unhook it from the cat and header - it has a few 90 deg bends on it already so you can cut/weld some of those to get the proper routing for the turbo - once you have that sorted out then you can measure what you need to route to the turbo and back to the cat from there. at least for the portion between the header and the cat you should use mandrel bent pipe if possible, if not i would consider going a bit larger as on the regular exhaust pipes the bends choke the cross section to less than what you have on the straight portion of the pipe.
