My pumkin is not set up for an inner seal inside the diff, when I put a solid axle in the outer seal in the vaccum disco was too big for the TJ axle - does anyone know of a seal that works and a part number?
I kind fab'd my own seal by taking the stock YJ seal the the inner seal for the TJ and combined them by gluing them together with RTV and then pressed it in.
If anyone has any better idea on how to do this let me know.
Its working right now!.

I'll have to look to see if I have the seal number for the seal I used.
-
Here's a number I copied from a writeup. I haven't tried it myself.
Passenger side seal for TJ shaft in YJ : 471763 a national number same for carquest and oriellys

this is the seal that will go in the vaccum disco area?

you only need one seal if you get the TJ one piece
-
What do you mean you only need 1 piece with the TJ one piece? you talking about the outer seals for $75?
I still want an inner seal just in case and my diff doesnt take the pass side seal, only in the vac disco area.

YJ with quick disconnect (2 piece axle) has 2 seals on the passenger side, the TJ has only one (i'm not talking about the outer seals at the end of the tubes).

The one above is the one for the vaccum disco area.
The part numbers I have for one that might fit next to the diff are: 470160 National
, and Napa PN 11343. Some writeups report that there is no original seal next to the diff on the passenger side and that you might have to grind a seat for these. Others report that these seals went right in with no problem. I suspect not all D30s are set up the same way and you will just have to check yours to see how it is.

i always thought the pass side on YJ had an inner seal and another seal by the disconnect - i might have gotten it wrong, not sure anymore. on the parts list for the YJ D30 there is a pair of inner seals and 1 called intermediate axle seal (that goes by the vac disconnect), what i was saying was that you only need the inner seals if you get rid of the disconnect (just like the TJ D30 has).
-
A seal by the disconnect housing would still be a good idea to keep water and crud from collecting there.

for sure
i don't know if the 1 piece axle has the shoulder machined to seal there though (but that's just me guessing so i could be wrong).

What I've read is that some people have polished that area or just sanded it with fine sandpaper and have reported that it has worked well.
-
ah, ok - thats where i was getting lost. I assumed (sorry for that) that all dana 30 YJs were the same with only 1 seal on the pass side. This is how mine is. I tried to put the TJ seal in the differential and it would not work. I'll buy on of the above seals and try it in the vacc disco if the one I made does not work or stops working.
Its interesting to know they are all set up differently though.

that makes sense now, i thought they all had 2 seals on that side

and i was probably wrong - i looked at an exploded view of YJ D30 and there is no inner seal so i'm lost.

this is annoying, i found a writeup that also mentions 2 seals on the pass side  and the manual is fairly vague when it comes to the seal replacement on the diff housing.
EDIT: this is a good writeup, also has some P/Ns for the seals (and seems that like it's been said some have 1 seal and some have 2) http://www.stu-offroad.com/axle/yjd30convert/yjconvert-1.htm

The Warn part numbers are:
Inner seal - 37897
Outer seal - 60006
Block off plate - 39147
Note from Stu: I pulled these part numbers off of a reliable forum, however, I've not verified them:
Inner seal - Chicago Rawhide CR11343
Outer seal - Spicer 46470

Update: 02/02/2007
Here are some part numbers to the seal that fits in the passenger side of the axle tube right at the differential. Please bear in mind that I used the seal that Warn sent and haven't ordered a seal using these numbers. They were kindly provided to me by other guys who have emailed me after they did the axle shaft swap.
Chicago Rawhide Part No: CR-11343
National Part No: 471763
Quadratec Part No: 52420.12
