Title: Ax15 swap missing a part
Post by: bammerman on September 18, 2010, 01:06:11 PM
Hey guys finally doing my swap.  rebuilt my 242 from ground up as well as tranny.  I got one out of a either 94-95 YJ or 97-99 XJ (by the stamp on the top of the tranny).  The one that had the slave outside and a cross-arm.  I was able to get the new pilot tip, and slave, but I cannot locate the cross-arm. I know this is needed and was wondering where I can buy one.  The junk yards out here are a no go.  Rarely any jeeps and if they come in they are stripped.  Now here is the bad news.  I move to Denver in about two weeks and need this part ASAP.  So if any of you have one for sale or know where I can get one I would appreciate it.  I checked ebay and all I see if full trannys.

My mechanic called it a fork.  when I look at the description of a ax-15 it says.

The AX15 was used with an internal slave/throwout assembly up through the 1993 model year. In 1994, a more conventional slave cylinder and cross-arm were used. The input shaft is a 10 spline x 1-1/8" and its stickout length is 7-1/2".

It's normally called a clutch fork.  Too bad you are not closer, the local u-pull is full of cherokees.

You really should try to determine if you have a YJ or XJ transmission as they clock the transfer case differently.  The XJ tranny hangs the transfer case lower than the YJ, and could cause fitment problems.

I was able to find one.  It is missing the retaining pins and I need a throwout bearing, but other than that I am good now.  He said it came out of an XJ, but when I type in the tranny number it "says" it is interchangeable.  I am a programmer not a wrench so I just believe what I read and leave the rest to my mechanic :)

Thanks for the reply's though I would not have found what I needed with that link

The tranny itself is interchangable, the only difference is how the bolt holes in the tcase adapter are drilled.  Easy enough to tell which one it came off of.  Take a look at the back of the tranny where the tcase bolts up.  There will be 6 holes in it.  If there is space to the right of each hole then it is from an XJ, if there is space to the left of each hole then it is from a wrangler.
