Title: Fan
Post by: mrcabinet on October 21, 2010, 07:46:44 PM
So I finally decided that the time had come to put in the Flex-A-Lite 485 that I've had sitting around for five months in the '01. I got the control mounted and all the wires pre-run. When I went to remove the stock fan, I discovered that the shaft that the fan mounts to is actually joined with the water pump pulley so that it is one-piece. Any suggestions on what to do now?

Take the whole clutch housing off with it.

it's not joined with the pulley, take the 4 nuts off and the clutch will come off, the pulley can be bolted to the waterpump just by itself.

Not sure what it's like on an '01, but here's my '95

You guys were right. I'm a moron that panicked before fully investigating it. Once I loosened the belt tension the fan literally fell right off.

I will say that the electric fan does make a nice little difference. I can start in second on a flat road without having to feather the clutch now. Coming to work on the freeway this morning, I didn't have to down shift in three out of the five places that I normally did before.

I put a Taurus fan in my YJ last year and love it. Other than a little performance help, I can now stand inside the engine bay on my front axle to work on the engine.   :stick:
