5.2L YJ
My issue is I have a warn 8274 and still using my old 4cyl battery. When I did my shakedown run at cliffs insane terrain the winch had little power killing the motor. even when my buddy was throttling the yj it just didnt have the juice the winch needed.
a quick search at orielleys online shows the stock replacement is only 90amp however there is an acdelco thats 120 but isnt in stock at all(why list it).
I plan to move up to an optima type battery and possibly dual set up.
My question is, is there a certain model alternator I can get over the counter to boost my amps. Or am I stuck with the pricey mean green option?

I think your battery is the limiting factor right now. Even with a low amp alternator, the battery should allow a good single pull. There is a list of alternators in the FAQ and the replacements that are commonly sold are higher amp than the OEM unit.

Check your local armature/alternator shops. You can price out a higher output alternator. The case size is a restrictor but you should be able to get plenty of amps-out alternator to work within those confinements. To add, they would have books and they usually know how to research them. For example, look for a stock application for the 5.2l engine. This provides a case number as well as the output. Then look for the same case # with a higher output for other applications. Pretty simple. And they will know there stuff, have dirty hands from working in the shop, etc. My experience has always been good with an armature shop, not only for an alternator, but the starter as well.

There is a thread on here describing the straight swappable Mopar high amp alternators that you can get from yards....
there are 120A units from several rigs that bolt straight in.

Check the FAQ. I run a 170amp Alt.

I run a stock 136a unit found in Dodge Trucks and Vans. Coupled to a bluetop Optima it keeps up with my 8274 really well.
If you want a stock 136a or a high-output alternator, check out this website: http://www.altsforless.net/ It's owned by a fellow Jeep club member of mine in Southern Illinois.
