hey guys my 98 tj with the 2.5 looks like oil is coming out of the breather hose behind the oil cap on the vale cover, any idea what is causing this. Also its leakin were the distributor goes into the motor. i have changed the gasket twice and tried silocone onece but nothin seems to fix the leak. thanks for all the advice.

Clean your CCV and the tube to make sure it's not clogged. How many miles are on the engine? if cleaning the CCV doesn't work them you might want to have the a compression check done.

it has almost 98,000 on it is the ccv the tube goin from the intake to the vale cover and i think the compression if fine because it dosent seem to have a loss of power or anything but then again i dont really no alot about motors since iv never done much work on them

does it spil any oil around the oil pan and/or front/rear crank seals?
You can also try cleaning the valve cover baffles as if there's buildup in there the oil would just be forced out due to higher blowby gasses velocity and not have "time" to leak back down (narrower passages would not allow enough room for the oil and would be forced out with the gasses).

Yes, that's the CCV. Make sure the brass fitting and the tube aren't clogged.

Pull the tube from the valve cover to the airbox and check for vacuum sucking into the engine. If no vacuum, the CCV system is clogged.

sry to keep asking stupid questions but to get to the baffels i need to pull the vale cover off right, and when i pull the vacum hose off to see if its sucking air i do that while its running right? sry for the dumb questions i just havent ever really messed with motors except changing oil and bolt on stuff but thanks for the help guys.

And did it work? (Cleaning the baffles and ccv system) Mine has been having the same problem, and the ccv was clogged. Vacuum was good, but the brass plug was "plugged". Cleaned it and the problem was improved, but not completely stopped, but I have not cleaned the baffles, nor done a compression check yet.

i know this is a new question but it's kind of along the same line as knotts, only my valve cover gasket appears to be leaking again. i've tried cork (no go), i'v tried gasket in a can (worked for a little bit leaks now), is there any good high quality like rubber, silicone, or neoprene valve cover gasket out there?

the reason the valve cover gaskets leak on the Jeep is b/c someone at Chrysler had a genius spark and decide not to machine the seating face on the cylinder head for that gasket (so it is just rough out of casting process). So you need to use RTV and let it set for something like 12 to 24hrs before running the engine to guarantee there are no leaks. Also, you will need to clean the seating area really well and use a de-greaser.

When I rebuilt my 2.5 there were 3 valve cover gaskets in the set, all slightly different, thinking,,, Rubber is best I used it, leaked like a seive. Called the Felpro Tech line and he asked me to describe my Valve cover, turns out there is a valve cover gasket for: Stamped Steel, plastic, Aluminum with and without tabs. Based on the head and valve cover description he gave me the correct part number (Which I have lost arg...) and once I put that one in the leaks were gone....

i just used a gasket from napa and it fine now. Cleaning the baffels did it but don not take them out because u cant get the seals anywere, i had to use silicone but it all worked at well and now theirs no more mess. By the way thanks for the help guys
