Title: Floor Jacks
Post by: 95 Lowbuck on January 02, 2011, 07:05:59 PM
Who makes a decent floor jack these days ?
I had made due with the cheep 2 1/2 Ton models
that you can get at your local chain auto parts stores.
Then I bought a Ford Excursion and needed to upgrade. (7200 lbs)
I bought a 3 1/2 ton Sears floor jack which I thought would be a quality product.
Would barely lift one end of the truck but worked OK.
Two years and a big pool of oil later I'm left with a crap floor jack
that does not work, out of warrenty, and is not rebuildable. (not even a port to refill)
Sears also sells an American Forge 3 1/2 ton they say is professional grade,
Any ideas?

Sounds like there was air in the jack or else bad seals.  Strange that there is no fill hole.

I use an old Harbor Freight 2.5T jack.  Looks exactly like the 3T they make now.  The only real complaint is that I with it had a rapid rise.  I hate pumping the handle with limited room.   I've had it for over 10 years though.

Lots of people have these: http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-super-heavy-duty-floor-jack-34271.html

i think we had the same jack, heavy as heck craftsman that never quite worked right and craped out right as the warranty expired,... lots of review online show a similar story...

Wish I had read the reviews before I bought it.
I did end up buying the H.F. 3 ton and I'm pretty happy with it.
Held my Ford up for 15 min. and did not budge.
At $80.00 bucks it's hard to complain.
