I have searched and found some older posts about this, but are there any companies that make an upgraded camshaft for a 97 2.5?
I am debating between rebuilding mine, or going with a crate engine. If all I can get is a stock cam, I might as well go crate.
I know the 2.5 will never be a powerhouse, but if I can get a camshaft that is better than stock, I would rebuild mine, and punch it .030 as well.

there are a few out there that used to make cams for the 2.5 but not sure if they are still available. Check Chad's TJ in member's projects, he's got a link for a regrind, that's your best bet at this time.

Just got my Jeep back for the shop. 2000 wrangler with the 2.5. I had 128000 miles on it. The motor was completely remanufactured. They bored it to 30 over, shaved the heads, multiple valve grind and performance cam from 505 performance. Outside the engine added a 4.0 throttle body and pacesetter headers. The intake was also ported to the heads. Still in the break in period. Only have 110 miles on the new engine. Performance wise can see good improvement. Measured gas mileage on first 100 miles also went up a little. Actually to early to really tell though. At 2000 miles plan to dyno it. It was worth the money I spent. If you do this to your jeep don't expect it to drive like a Big motor because it's just a 4banger.

If the engine was hurting before it's gas mileage was probably down. With a rebuild it should be OK but go up a bit more once it's broken in.
