I am getting ready to order gears for my d44's. I will be running a turbo and 37's but do not know if I should go with 5:13 or 5:38? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I run a NV 3550 if this helps.

between the 2 choices 5.38 would be closest to stock ratio (28'' tires on 4.10 compared to 37'' with 5.38 will be less than 1% difference).

Do you think I should go lower or higher?

5.38's would be OK for 37's but really it's better for 35's. Although going higher is a larger jump to 5.89's.
Stock tires for the 2.5L are 205.75R15's which are 27's. 215.7515 (28" )were the optional.

Should I be caculating expected gains from the turbo?

Well, with a turbo, I'd imagine you could go to 5.13's or 5.38's but that's all dependent on what the turbo brings to the table. It would probably be better to regear properly though.
Maybe Scott will give his 3cents since he used to run 37's with 5.38's. I'd think that would be an good compromise.

I would gear it not taking that in to account. having a turbo won't change your rpm ranges it will only give you more power to push through them or hold higher speeds etc..
not to mention turbo's like having a bit of rpm to make boost!!

If that is the case, should i run the 5.89's?

I would gear it high cause it's easier to get bigger tires if you don't like it lol but for some reason I can see you saying you have to much power lol

4cly to much power :roflol: I know what you mean, I am leaning towards the 5:38 but still I am not 100% sure.

p.s I would run 5.38's with 33's if I could!!!

5.38 would be my choice, they're not bad with my 36" and would be much better on the highway with a turbo.
If you don't drive much highway, go with 5.89. Keep in mind the 5.89 will have a smaller pinion than than the 5.38 gears.

I think I would go with the 5.38's VS. the 5.89's. Unless the 37's are a heavy swamper type tire. I ran MT/R's the 5.38's were pretty good on the flat, but on the hills it would need to go down to 4th. Only on long steep hills would I need 3rd.
Like Bounty said the pinion head will be a bit stronger too.
