Post by: andpgud on April 15, 2011, 01:20:25 PM
Hi there guys.
Can you tell me specs of the TB spacer. I am about to make me one.
Best reg.

They vary form .75" tall to 1.25" and you match the hole and bolt pattern of the new throttle body.

I always wanted to machine a block of AL about 6" long then cut it into varying lengths and do a series of
dyno pulls just to see, now I just need the money for the dyno time... :)

So what would be the best one would you think?
What if I have a tb from a 4 liter car and the other hole is smaller. What do I do?
How big is the tb on a 4 liter one?

i have not seen one thicker than 1.5'', they are usually like he^ said about 1'' or 1-1/4 so if you're around that you're in the ballpark of what everyone else is using.

Mine is 1", its 62MM bore, but I am running a stock 4.0 TB on it. After you make the spacer, you need to bolt it on the manifold and mark the manifold for grinding/cutting in the bore. I used shop rags covered with grease stuffed in the manifold runners  to block the shavings from going down in the motor and used a shop vac while I did the cutting with a 1/4 in electric die grinder and a carbide burr.

The spacer moves the power band it does not really add power. With mine my power comes on at 2500 and pulls to about 5000, without the spacer the power bad was about 3200 to about 6200. (My motor is built for revs so I can get away with this I don't recommend it on a stock engine)

I pull the spacer out if I'm headed down to play in the dunes. I'd like to try a 2" spacer for crawling..

I drive the car mainly on roads, Just want more power.
Should I then say no to the spacer?
Can anyone give me the specs so I can to it without the TB. ! inch wide.
Where do I drill the holes?

that's a throttle body, i thought you were asking about a spacer.

I was asking about a spcer and there I asked what you thought about that TB

looks like a 62 mm but is hard to tell for sure as it's quite dark and dirty. If you go with it you'll need to swap the IAC and it's housing from your 2.5 t/b.

looked at it again and could be just a regular 4.0L t/b, a backside pic would probably be more relevant.

How wide is the regular one?
Its 62mm right?

i think it's 60 up top and 55 or 56 on the bottom (manifold side)

You are right as far as a 4.0L TB goes it is 60mm on top and 55mm on bottom. On a stock 2.5L TB it is 55mm top and 48mm bottom. Stock 2.5L intake manifold bore is 51mm. I run a stock 4.0L TB on my 4 banger and bored out my stock intake manifold from 51mm to 55mm. I Run a custom TB spacer which is 60mm top side and tapers to 55mm bottom side. Helps keep air presurized coming in which maintains torque through out the power band. Works for me.

O yeah the 4.0L stock intake manifold bore is 58mm, just some nice info to have.

What would you say if I would get a stock 4L TB and a 55mm, 1" wide spacer and bore the Intake manifold to 55mm?
How would that work out for the 2.5?

that would be a nozzle which would increase velocity and decrease pressure according to Bernoulli equation (simplification)

take a look at the picture on right side of the wiki link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernoulli%27s_principle

you have to have the same flow rate through the entire system so when you go to a smaller diameter the velocity has to go up to maintain the flow rate.  Bernoulli equation has velocity, pressure, and gravitational potential terms, in this case (1 inch drop) gravitational potential change is quite small, so for the increase in velocity you lose pressure.

So 55mm all the way should do the job?

It's more than the stock one so it does gain a bit of performance. The 62-64mm ones even more so.

Nice 64s, do you also bore the manifold that big on a 2.5L?

With doing the TB thing and with the spacer, do you get better MPG?

unlikely, as you get better response and probably drive faster it might get worse. It's more about the way you drive than anything and based on how this would fit your style of driving could go either way.
