Title: 2.5 bare block prices?
Post by: bigcountry333 on April 20, 2011, 10:37:51 PM
New guy here. Bought a 94 yj a week ago and it has got a slight knock in the bottom end. started pricing long blocks ($1700 is the cheapest ive found which is ridiculous to me),and found a bare block at a local junkyard for $250. it comes with a crank and the cam but no rods, pistons, or oil pan. and they say it only has or had 37k miles on it. so is that a good price or too much? and heres the kicker, my buddy just scrapped two, yes two, perfectly good 2.5s cause nobody wanted em.

Really depends.  I've seen complete engines going for under $500.  Craigslist is also a good place to start.  www.car-parts.com is also good since you can find parts locally without having to hunt for them in a yard.
