Hello guys,
been awhile since I have wrote here. Finally have my engine mounted the 88 4.0 and now we have no clue what to do with the airbox. Just doesn't fit. Do I need to do a cold air intake, what have other people done with this issue. I put power steering in it where it didn't have it before and took all the room.
-
I would post a picture but upload folder is full
-
I picked up a 4.0 intake setup (stock) for free and put it on my YJ.

I had to drill 2 holes to attach it. Other than that fits like it was made to.
-
I think that will work because that is where I would have to relocate mine too. thanks man.
-
Is it for a wrangler or a cherokee? Can you give me details on the exact thing I would need to buy?
-
Also how did you deal with the vacuum?

Pretty sure it's off a 02 TJ. I got everything from the airbox to the TB. It's just the air tube and the airbox really.Mine came with a pretty fresh filter too. Make sure the clamps are still there.
Also how did you deal with the vacuum?
Whaddya mean? Just make sure the hoses are all hooked up.
-
My mechanic said the vacuum had to run into the airbox line so figured it was a special but or adapter

Look at mine in the above PIC. There is a line that comes off the valve cover and T's. One goes to the brake booster and one to the air tube. The air tube has a fitting molded in to it. I might have had to buy new tubing but I don't remember. The plastic T is a factory thing. It has always been on.

Thanks again Scott Karma ++ bro, miss my wrangler haven't driven it in almost a year :(

Scott, if your booster is connected to the air filter tube and the valve cover is not working at all - there is no vacuum there. the booster should go to the intake manifold directly (no Ts or anything like that, so it get's max vacuum). I have no idea how you can stop that Jeep if it goes to the air box tube that goes to the t/b.

I think you're seeing the Evap canister line that connects to the T. it normally goes to the airbox.

I am sure I am wrong on the brake booster line. I forgot the evap can is in that corner under the brake booster. Next time I pop the hood I'll take a look.

The line going to the T sure looks like the Evap. line. It's a hard plastic.
Brake booster goes to the manifold and is rather thick.

All I know I am finally | | <- this close after a year of trying to rebuild my dead beast. You all have helped a lot and I learned a lot from ya so thanks. Guess I have to be another donator this year for the help :D

Anyone got one of these for sale? Or should I just buy an after market one?

Let me check with my club. Maybe someone has one laying around.
-
So far a guy has just the airbox, not the tube from the airbox to the TB.
-
Bummer, Here is a bad thing and maybe one of you can answer this. Is there a part for this to mount too? On my throttle body there are three holes but nothing to mount too. just flat and three holes
-
there was a person here that did a cai for the tbi and just attached the tube to the plastic elbow where the normal corrugated tube would connect. will try to find the post and provide the link...
edit. found it. page7 of this thread

Ok I got a air box to throttle body for the 02 and it won't work.
Here is what mine looks like, it has a weird triangle shape and only fits on that way. The 02 is round.
here is the bracket that had a hose attached that fits on my throttle body. All the others I have seen do not look like this :(
it only goes on one way and its pointed the wrong way in my jeep - no room for airbox

Is that the side of the TB that faces up?
-
Yeah that bracket and hose mounts to that

This is what mine looks like. The Tube just slips on top of the TB and you tighten the hose clamp thing.
Looks like a adapter would need to be made with a bit of a lip on it so the tube can slide on?
-
There is a rubber hose that slips on that bracket and is mounted to that TB. I can't cover that triangle piece up because there is something with the air sensor or something along those lines there. You can see it in the tiny picture. I am not sure why mine looks so different. When I look up 88 cherokee I get a TB that looks like yours so maybe mine is older or something. I did see a few like mine in the junk yard today, though in same year range
-
Maybe someone who knows more about the older stuff can answer. I don't know if there was a few styles of TB's for the pre-MPFI.
Sorry.
-
I am thinking of taking the bracket to a metal shop and having them weld a pipe on there with the bend in it about 3 inches up to just get it to work for now and put together my own cold air intake.
-
said screw it having a shop custom fit a 3" pipe on it and make my own cold air intake for it.
-
Has anybody noticed he is talking 4.0 not 2.5. Also was not 1990 a Carbed engine.
-
aw missed that you are talking about renix 4.0l until I saw the picture. thought i saw a cai for those somewhere in my internet browsing. but can't find it anymore.
-
Maybe this:

-
I cant see the mount if it has that triangle piece, already paid a guy 92 to make the mods to my bracket to outfit a 3" pipe to it to do a K&N intake system
-
those kits just the oem rubber tube and connect a cone filter to it eliminating the air box.
-
Having this guy modify my part cost only 90, I think I can piece together a descent system or K&N after the fact, and this way I can always do a snorkel later on too - so I think it is a win.... if it works :D
