Title: Exhaust gasket
Post by: bootguy on August 30, 2014, 10:52:30 PM
Second exhaust gasket in 12 months just blew out.  I have a stock exhaust and last time I put a new exhaust manifold on with new studs and bolts.  re-torqued after a few hundred miles.  Is this common or is it crappy gaskets.  I tried finding copper ones but they really only make them for racing applications.  Input greatly requested.

P.S. - anyone know where to get new intake manifolds for the 2.5?

are you torqueing it properly? maybe get some new conical washers. otherwise might be warped in which case does not matter what gasket you install. (or maybe one of the studs/bolts broken which is common with the 2.5)

The last time I changed out the gasket I re-used the old bolt, studs and washers.  I will change them out this time as it is inexpensive to do.  More in labor than parts at this point.

Changed the gasket to the one piece, new bolts and studs and nuts.  Ended up using some offset washers as none of the parts stores knew what a conical washer was.  Also ended up replacing about 9 feet of various vacuum hose as a lot of it was deteriorated.  It is the little things that cause the most improvement on these 4 bangers.
