Title: Swapping in rubicon case?
Post by: stan98tj on November 20, 2014, 09:37:07 PM
I have the 3spd auto. Anyone know of swapping in a rubicon 241 is at all possible? Would it be more or less direct swap or would there be any difficult wiring?

Talked to Advanced Adaptors today and sounds like the Rubi case is direct bolt in with my transmission. I'll need a new driveshaft.

The 241OR is larger than the 231J.  If you have a 1" or more body lift, no problem.  Otherwise you might need to "adjust" your floor panel for clearance with a 5 lb sheet metal adjustment tool.

Another possible concern is that the Rubicons have a 4.0 which has the 23 spline transmission output. The 2.5 liter 5 speeds use a 21 spline output.  You need to make sure your three speed transmission has the 23 spline output - pretty sure it does.

The guys at AA are the experts, but I did a quick double check.  You should have a 23 spline transmission output.  You may need an extended seal to keep the juice in the slush box.  AA should be able to tell you.

30rh - 1997-2002
3 speed automatic
23 spline output
Ratios:
1st - 2.74
2nd - 1.54
3rd - 1.00
Rev - 2.20

Yeah ill confirm with them right before i purchase. But i think this will work out well. Pretty excited to see how that 4:1 will turn out. I have a 1" BL now.

You'll have a 50:1 crawl ratio in first gear with an automatic.  Should work very well on rough trails.

It'll bolt right up to trans, even the shifter mechanism will bolt up stock. For the rear ds, check out your extended local CL. I see them from time to time on my semi-local CL. However, be best to get a cv yoke and put a cv joint on the output of the rear ds. Check out rubicon owners forum for what they've experienced. Enjoy the crawl.

I just picked up a tera low with SYE 231 case for my 97 2.5l/auto....yes, 23 spline output.

what gears/tires are your running with that auto? Im 4.56 with my 33s and i'd like to move up to 35s. I did the grimjeeper chart and it seemed fine. Haven't been able to see any real world reports though.
