Title: Is anyone running a truetrac in there D35
Post by: 01amberfirewv on August 31, 2005, 10:54:46 AM
I have been wanting to add some more traction as well as 4.88's but have been holding out for a full locker so I can get a Super35.  I know Alloy makes hardend 27spline axles which would work with a true tack and it seems like I could get away with that combo since I have a 4banger but it would be nice to here it from someone with experince.

I have a freind running the truetrac in a 35 with a 6 and stock axle shafts. his 37's are fine, but he has control over his right foot and an automatic.

Well, I run a True-Trac in the front.  Decent LSD and I know it's tight because of the understeer I get when it's active.  Honestly though, if you're looking for locker performance you will probably be dissappointed with a LSD.  If you're going to spend that much money on a Super35 then I'd really consider upgrading axles, too.

An automatic is a lot smoother then a Manual so there is less shock when shifting gears.  The TrueTrac is a LSD and bias's up to 2.5:1 so there is some give.  Tractech used to only recommend up to 33's for the TrueTrac's.  I've been running mine with 35's for years.  But then again, it's in the front which is a bit easier on the axle.

I am running a true trac in the D 35 with stock shafts and 33's and haven't broken anything yet (had it in a year) and I have been out on about five wheeling trips.

I think my Jeep would do pretty well with front and rear LSD.  The main reason I would consider S35 is because of all of the horrer stories I have heard of the D35.  I have a friend who has a S35 with a detroit and a lock-rite up front.  His Jeep is also a 4cyl and he usualy out performs the built 4.0's. I like the idea of LSD's because my wife drives my Jeep some and I figure it would be hard for her to handle in the winter with lockers

I have have many people tell me I would be better off going with an 8.8 or something but there would be so much time and money in one that I just can't see doing that.  Plus I would still have to spend money one gears and a locker

Honestly, if you don't really need the added strength but want the piece of mind, I'd get some stock spare shafts to carry with you.  It would be the cheapest option.

D35's are a hit and miss sort of thing.  Some tend to break easily while others hold up rather well.  It will also depend on the driving.

Don't waste money beefing up the 35, the 2.5L isn't that hard on them, especially with moderately sized tires.  Pick up a spare set of axleshafts ($30-$50) and call it done.  Spend the money on other mods like the LS and gears.
