Title: Wheels
Post by: trailblazer95 on June 08, 2005, 10:39:12 AM
Thinking about some new wheels (TR beadlocks), looking at a weight of ~33lbs per wheel for steel vs. ~23 for the aluminum.  Also looking at a price difference of about $50 more per wheel for aluminum.

Every little bit counts in a 4 banger.  Swapping from steel to aluminum rims made a noticable impact on the performance of my Jeep.

I voted for the AL too. That is 10 pounds per wheel to get started and keep rolling and 10 pounds less to get stopped. It all adds up.

I went from 33's and steel to 35's and AL. With the 4.88's it's pretty OK. Could use some more gear for sure, but if I would have kept the steel I am pretty sure it would be more of a dog.

I voted steel.  Because unless you buy the high dollar billet wheels and you bend the cast aluminum you can't beat it back into shape without it breaking. Yeah they are lighter but I like the piece of mind of beating my rim back into good enuff shape to reseat a tire to get me home.
