Hello all, name is Mike, live in Florida, pipe welder and fitter by trade, work in the space industries, have a 91 yj base model,
2.5, AX5, no power anything except brakes, lifted with 33’s other than that pretty well stock.

Welcome!  If you haven't got the gears yet, I'd highly recommend going with 5.13s if you have a manual.

Hello I live in Panama City ,Florida by way of Little Rock ,Arkansas. I am in the process of re gearing my 97 Little Green Jeep. It has 3.73 with 33's and a 4 inch lift. getting 4.88's so I can at least drive it on the High way at 60-65. Also about to move to North Georgia , so I will be needing a little more gear to get around in the Hills.

There isn't one that sends a signal to the ECU.  There's only one sender and it's next to the distributor.  Should have one wire going to it.  It's just called the Oil Pressure Sender.

Hi, guys.  Have not posted here in a LOOOOOOOOONG time!  But I still have the Jeep!

Anyway, anyone remember what the sensor for the oil pressure gauge is named?  Not the one that sends to the ECU, but the one that sends the pressure to the dash.

First welds in almost 30 years.  Looks like crap but also not that bad for the first time.


The second time.  Basically, I get a few hours a week.  I think I was having gas flowrate issues.


Third week.  Still playing around with settings.  The welder is a Miller DVI2.  The controls are kinda weird in that there isn't an actual voltage.  I've got 6 positions to choose from.  Wire speed is 10-100.  May have still had some gas flow issues.


Week 4.  Had a guy help me set up the welder.  Was pushing the machine harder than it needed.  A bunch of HS kids also use the machine and change all of the settings all the time.  I've always gotta clean up after them before I can do any welding.  Lowered the wire speed and voltage and it welded a lot better.  Kind of counterintuitive.  Hoping to get decent before getting my own welder.  I'm looking at the Millermatic 215.  They have a stick welder and a TIG so once I get better at MIG I'll probably switch over to one of the others.

Been able to practice welding for a few hours every week for the past 3 weeks.  Using a Millermatic DVI2.  Not really sure of the specifics of the machine but it does weld.  The sire speed and voltage are kinda weird though.  Voltage is labeled 1-6 so there are no fine adjustments.  Wire speeds are 1-100.  Kinda wish they would use the more standard Volts and WFS.

Looking to finally get a welder.  I'm thinking about a Millermatic 211.  I've got 240v here and from all I've learned, a 240 MIG will do basically everything that I would want, or need to do.  Hopefully, I can get a decent price for one in the coming months.  There's a pretty decent discount right now but I think I'm going to miss it.

What I question on is all the other gear though.  What do you recommend for everything else?  I'm probably going to splurge and get an auto-dimming helmet.  Not sure which one though.  Gloves, wire, cylinder size, etc...

 It has 180,000 on the engine.
Quite frankly I would run it more if it didn’t sound like
a bunch of marbles floating around in there,
and the blow by out the valve cover.
Doesn’t burn a drop of oil.
It’s about time to do something.

I'm in CA as well.  From what I've heard, as long as you don't go too radical on the cam, you can run a stroker.  Lots of people run stroker 4.0Ls and pass.  I know the apprehension though.  I'm really thinking about going SC.  Not CARB legal but I'm willing to tear it out every two years.  We'll see though.  Installing a SC is one thing.  Being able to return it back to stock is another.

Not sure if I'd screw with the compression.  It's already 9.5:1.  I wouldn't want to have to run premium.  Though I'm sure I'd pick up a few hp if I ran premium in my engine. 108K isn't a lot of mines though.  I've got 109K on mine and it's pretty tight.  When I flopped it on its side, it didn't even smoke on startup.
