Topic: where to mount hi lift jack

This is where I have it for now. It's not secured down to anything but it will be before I leave for Assateague Island on Friday. Does anyone have any good ideas as to where I could mount this beast on the interior without it getting in the way to much? I wanted the 42" but got the 48" because it was cheaper than the smaller version at my local 4x4 shop. I should have just gotten the 42". I wouldn't be having such a hard time mounting it if I did.

Put two muffler clamps, or fencepost clamps, on the rollbar just above each end of where the jack sits right now.  Then slip a hole of each end of the jack over one stud on the clamps and attach with wingnuts.  Nice and secure, and out of the way.

I thought about doing that but then it won't mount the way Bounty Hunter mentioned. I need the full length to span the rear roll bars.

Mine has been mounted that way for a while. A 2.5" exhaust clamp will fit through the holes in the foot of the jack. never mind the bungee on the right, the toe was broken at the time of pic so I couldn't get the padlock on it.

I went to Ace Hardware and picked up 3 of there larger U-Bolts/washers and nuts. I wrapped it tightly around the roll bar padding. works real nice and its easy, 3 nuts and its off. When its on, its very snug and dose not move when I hit bumps or wheeling.
I also keeped it low so if some one was in the back seat, they would not hit it if I for some horrible reason was in a wreck.

Looks great!  I have seen some people mount it without the nuts on the base side and using a wing nut on the non-base side.  Since the nut on the non-base side keeps the jack from moving side to side, you really don't need the two nuts on the base side.  It does seem safer with the nuts though...just slower to get out when stuck.

I searched the internet and found some real bad examples of how people mounted these jacks. I took the advice from this thread and this is how I did.

1- 2 1/2'' exhaust clamp. I had to put the clamp in the vice to squeeze the threaded ends closer by about 1/8'' because it wouldn't fit through the holes in the base.



Here I used an electrical conduit strap with a washer and a brass thumb nut.
