rebuild time
« on: July 08, 2012, 07:00:45 PM »
well tomorrow i plan on finally pulling the engine!!!  it currently has no problems but with 180,000 miles i'd like to start fresh. I'll have it magnafluxed, cleaned, honed or bored (depending on condition) new pistons, all new bearings, seals, timing set, oil pump, water pump, etc... also 19lbs injectors w/ FPR, 4.0 TB, and maybe electric fan.        that's the base plan for now. it might grow or shrink.

so my question is where should i get my engine parts? anything i should stay away from? i found this on ebay does anyone have experience with this kit?  http://www.ebay.com/itm/ENGINE-REBUILD-KIT-1994-1995-JEEP-150-2-5L-OHV-L4-AMC-94-95-/120887185537?hash=item1c25701081&item=120887185537&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr#ht_4429wt_1270          i'm calling the machine shop tomorrow to see what info they have...

thanks,
Luc

if you take it to the machine shop for honing and planning to use new pistons just bore it rather than using stock size pistons. I would buy the parts separate, hypereutectic pistons (i think sealed power are good, look for the ones with coated skirt and a lighting bolt on the coating - can't remember if those were the sealed power ones but were apparently the best ones before the jumping into the forged pistons which are extremely expensive), plasma rings, buy a upper and lower gasket kit (they come with all the seals you need). I strongly recommend new rockers and related if not roller rockers (check my thread about rockers in member's projects, they deflect/bend and you don't get the advertised ratio, more 1.5 than the listed 1.6) and of course lifters and pushrods.
