hey, has anyone swapped a shift knob on a 99 TJ with a manual tranny?
i'd assume that all the manual TJ shift knobs would be the same...

i already did a search, but that didnt bring up anything that would help

I think you need to pry up the center cap on it (the deelly with the shift pattern) and there should be a nut there to remove.

The older ones had a lock nut on the bottom that had to be loosened first before unscrewing the knob. But I think the one you have has the locking nut under the cap like sunder said.

you have to pry up the cap on the stick - use a fine flat head screwdriver and work all around the cap to pry it up - it won't come up just by digging it in one side and prying like a crowbar -- after that its a nut to remove and the knob should pull off

I copeyed those off another website forum.
So I can't take any credit.
