Is that the Vortec? If it is that's one stout V6. I have one in my van.

It's all about the money...   The 2.5L could be fixed for less money than it'll cost to get into a Vortex V6.  If you could afford it, or get it done correctly, that's my vote.

I bought my Jeep with only one this in mind.  Hard top and doors.  I could care less about the motor, because I figured if I blew it up, I'd put the same V6 inside.  But I'm building around the engine I've got, because if I ever do blow it up I want to be sure the rest of the drivetrain can handle it.

You need to make sure your addressing that too.

Is the rest of your drive train going to be able to handle the 290 ft lbs of torque that bad little bowtie motor puts out? if money isn't anything to you, you should fire in  front and rear dynatrac axles too!! you know what as you were!!!! skip the 4.3 go to teraflex.biz and look into the hemi conversion kit!!! yeah!!!!!!!

scratch that.. in my rush i didnt wait long enough befor pulling the motor over so there wasnt enough fuel presure yet for it to start:(

have had a Jeep in one form or another since 1977.  got my most recent Jeep ride, a '06 TJ Wrangler.

hang on to your hats - I ordered it stripped!

the guy here in Germany at our post just couldn't believe it!  it was the only Wrangler they had ever ordered bare.

I can tell you that I've been having a hoot!

found a great set of 5 Grizzly cast factory wheels, put on a set of Cooper 235/75-15s and have not looked back.

run it with synthetic in the crank as well as both axles and normally get 21-22 miles per gallon.  it only has 6000 miles on it and I suspect the mileage will increase.

the 2.4 has good enough power in it's stock form in a light TJ and have found out on a tip from a buddy of mine - there's a bunch of stuff the PT Cruiser guys use that will work on the same motor in my rig.  we'll see.

until then, the top goes down and we have a lot of fun on forest trails!

my jeep has over 150 thousand miles on it and the motor has only had the top half of it rebiult once.. also its a 1990 so it has the 2.5l which is less powerfull and it was tbi so it losses even more power and milage.... and it backfires when i shit sometimes.. but ill stick with it tell it blows

do the swap...if you have the motor and want something a little more unique, then go for it...just because this is a 4-banger web site doesnt mean that it should hold you back...no offence to anyone here of course, but jeepin is about community...its a lifestyle...and it shouldnt matter what engine you have in your wagon, just that your wagon is a jeep...i plan on swapping in a 350, SM 465 tranny, and Currie 9" axles...and just because i do does not make me any less of a person doing it or make my jeep any less of a jeep for doing it either...as it should be for everyone else... :? sorry for the rant...but a jp is still a jp

congrats on finding the leak...i put some leak stopper stuff in my motor and it has worked wonders...

Have you researched the cost of the swap? The deciding factor for me would be time & money to do the swap. If you do the swap would you be interested in selling the tired 4banger. I would love a project rebuilding a 2.5L without having my Jeep down for the whole time and putting some nice performance parts in as time and money permit. Bore the block 30 over, new cam, lifters, double roller chain, maybe some head work etc. Then when it's all ready 2-3 days to do the swap!

ya if i do the swap( ill warn you it would proably be about a year from now befor it would be done at least).. i would be happy to sell the motor i would have no real use for it... but im in minnesota and looks like your in cali so that could be interesting geting it from poitn a to point be...

the cost of the swap would be just the trany (whichever one i would go with... might just put a ax15 so i have 5 gears so i can go highway rather than the 4speed trany i have laying around) and a adapter kit for it to go to the trany and the motor.. but my dad has a freind that biulds race car motors and has a shop so he gives us a good deal on machine work...

but then again there are all the hiddin costs of gages and such... (thats what im afraid of is the electronics.. although i could use the same speedo cuz has nothin to do with motor
