Death Roll

ok i did the search and couldnt find anything so ill giv it a try....

Death Roll....or Wobbles ....whatever u want to call it...

We installed a new locker in my front end.

everything was fine and i test drove it the next day and i noticed a really bad feeling in the front. like i was driving in 4wheel drive constantly.

called my  buddy up and told him what was going on and the he asked me to look at the spare parts that were left on the work bench....Sure enough i found the first problem we forgot to install the thrust washers.

ok tear it down again and test it again....well thats fixed but now when i get down the road and i hit a little bump i get a bad wobble (Death Roll) at all speeds 15-55 mph....
If i tap the brakes it stops but the steering wheel feels like its going to be riped out of my hand.

Tires are New and balenced
suspension is like new only 8 months old
Bushings look great....
could this be a wheel bearing problem??? or a steering linkage issue???

This never happened before and it happened after the locker was installed wrong...

if any of u guys have anything on this it would be really appricated

Thanks a head of time :)

Number of things to check and recheck.

Tire balance - done.
Tires round -
wheels straight (not bent) -
Tie rod/track bar ends -
front ds joint/yoke tight -
wheels lugs tight evenly -
suspension links tight -
tires proper air pressure -
steering stabilizer disconnect/connect - any difference
play in steering wheel/shaft/box -

I've got the same problem but my mph is in a much higher. I didn't run a steering stabilizer, but now do. Still have front wobble, but now it's just the wiggling of the steering wheel. Everything on mine checked out. Only thing I could and still think is the LTBs have such a large lug pattern that going around town in the 20's, the outer face of the lugs would grip the concrete and push/pull. Then as the tire rotates faster, the shifting between the front tires provided the wobble. I'm now running low 30s and probably will go a little higher next road trip for testing purposes. I also think I've got some play on the steering box.

Have someone just wiggle the steering wheel while you check out the tie rods, track bar, etc. Remove the front ds (tie it up out of the way) and see if that provides some idea to the problem. Then have someone else drive your Jeep while you get in front and look for the beginning of the wobble and where its possibly coming from.

the wobble isnt consitant....In fact we hav lane dividers that are caramic bumps (turtles) anyway when i change lanes the wobble will start and progessivly get worse over the course of 50-100 feet depending on speed ofcourse.

what is killing me it starts like a snake slow but noticable....the progesses to a violent thrashing of the steering wheel.

i tried one day to see if i could just find somthing wrong with it but i had to step on the brake so that the rear wouldnt follow the front around....Not a good idea in the middle of a 3 lane road on a 2 am pissed at the wife cruise...lmao

Thanks for the Input.....ill take another look and see how its working

Mine did that until I replaced the steering stabilizer. The shock in the steering system.
Other than that , I woud have had a professional install the locker.
