AEM Brute Force from a 4.0litre
« on: August 05, 2007, 08:47:03 AM »
Hi,
First time posting on this board. I'm Johnny from Canada, who drives a 1998 2.5L TJ. i just had a question about the AEM Brute Force intake. I've heard some people say that the Brute Force from a 6cyl 4.0litre can fit on a 2.5liter. I was wondering if anyone has heard about this? does it actually work? Thanks

I tried this (AEM intake from 4.0 onto a 2.5) and it was a nightmare. I only did it because I got the AEM setup for almost nothing.

The cold air plate fits fine. The bad part is that the intake on the 2.5 is a little further back in the engine compartment than the 4.0, this causes the intake tube to be diagonal across the motor and the filter hits the plate.

I ended up just using the cold air plate, the filter, and cutting the elbow close to the filter to fit my stock tube. When all was said and done, it was not worth the effort.

I'm planning on running a 4.0 TB and spacer, as well as opening up the heads, and programming for correct a/f ratio.
1.What would be the correct intake to go with?
2.I'm not sure I know what a cold air plate is- most cold air intakes look like a filter on a stick to me.
3.How about fabbing up an intake.

1. The 4.0 throttle body does not change the fore-aft location of the throttle body in relation to the engine bay. The 4.0 throttle body just has a larger internal diameter.

2.  By "cold air plate" I mean the piece that blocks off the air filter from the heat created by the rest of the engine. In the case of the AEM kit, it is an L shaped piece of metal that attaches at the radiator in the front and the fender/support strut in the back.

3. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably buy an assortment of air tube straights and bends and a filter from Jegs.com to make my own.
