Air intake with 4.0 TB conversion
« on: August 22, 2007, 06:19:58 PM »
Hey everyone, My name is jake coleman.  I'm very new to jeeps and honestly know very little about automobiles in general (which is why I'm asking this question).  I just recently bought a 97 tj and want to get a little more power and just want my baby to run a little better.

First I have been on here for a couple weeks reading post and researching as much about jeeps as I can.  I want to do a throttle body conversion, and a cold air intake upgrade.  My question is will a 2.5 cold air intake system work with a 4.0 tb or will I have to get a 4.0 intake system, and if i have to get a 4.0 intake what, if any, modifications will I need to make.

Also My jeep is making a ticking sound whenever i give it gas. I know that I have an exhaust manifold leak, but i wasn't sure if that was it. (I plan on getting headers when i get the money ).

Thanks so much guys!

This website has been more than helpful... I plan on getting a new speedo gear soon, because i had no idea that affected gas mileage!!

-jake

ps. I think jeffy spends more time on here then in the jeep! :blbl:

For the cold air intake you will want to get the 2.5l version. The 4.0l version will be 4 inches to short and you'll have mounting and placement troubles.

As for the tick you mentioned... it could be the exhaust manifold. Most likely is. You'll find out for sure when you add the header.

as Dex sugested, you would want to get the 2.5l intake. The 4.0 throttle body would still work and you should have no fitment issues that way.

Check the front and rearmost studs on the exhaust manifold, likely broken off.  That would cause the ticking sound and is common on the 2.5L engine.

You would be on here a lot too if you owned the site :weee:
