YJ 2.5L chip?
« on: March 16, 2008, 01:35:42 PM »
I saw this on eBay, and to be totally honest, it sounds like crap, but I thought I'd share it with you.  From what I read, it sounds like a $253.99 (plus $12.50 S&H) adjustable MAP sensor (I made an adjustable MAP sensor with about $20 and a trip to Radio Shack!), but I will let you guys decide...

1991-1995 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L Venom 400 Control Module
Description:
GAIN UP TO 25% MORE HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE FROM YOUR VEHICLE THROUGHOUT THE MIDRANGE!!! The VENOM 400 Performance control Module is an add-on control unit that features its own micro controller. This module is connected to the vehicle’s sensors and increases engine performance by monitoring the sensors output characteristics and modifying the input to vehicle’s existing computer. The Venom 400 activates at about 25-30% throttle angle. Upon activation it modifies the input signals going into your computer, in particular the Manifold Absolute Pressure and Throttle Position Sensor Signals. When the computer sees these “modified” signals it will provide a different set of fuel and ignition maps than it would normally provide. The Venom 400 makes the computer use maps that are more aggressive and provide better engine performance increasing the area under the curve on a dyno chart by up to 25%. Installation is easy and can be completed in 30 minutes in most cases.

Looked at their website, and it appears that all it does is mess with the MAP input that the ECM when the TPS sees you are at over 25% throttle.   I sure wouldn't spend $250 for one.

Yup, it sure does!  What I liked best is the "GAIN UP TO 25% MORE HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE FROM YOUR VEHICLE THROUGHOUT THE MIDRANGE" claim...  I REALLY REALLY doubt an adjustable MAP sensor will create such gains (and if it did, we would all have them by now!).
