Topic: starting problems

my 95 rio 2.5l starter turns slow for a few secs and then picks up and starts. i changed the battery, both cables, swapped the relays around and had the starter tested the starter spins freely and gives a 165 reading at startup, and there's no codes from the crank position sensor what could it be? any ideas thanks, clint

What you would want to check is the amp draw of the starter while its on the Jeep and cranking if this is not excesive then check battery voltage while crankinging should stay above 10 volts. or at the very leat 9.5 volts this is an absolute minimum around 10 volts is the norm. If cranking amps are ok but voltage to low check and clean battery and ground cable connections if still low change battery. if cranking amps are high and voltage is low its the starter. But in my opinion it sounds like a bad battery pretty common for batteries that are going bad to cranck slow initially and then return to normal. Have the battery tested before changing anything. I would say that is your easiest course of action

Check all your grounds and battery connections.
Also check starter connections.

thanks guys, i had everything tested on 2 different machines, everything came up ok, battery was good, changed cables, swapped relays, cleaned grounds, turned out the starter was bad although, it was tested and registered good, just goes to show computers aren't as smart as people think
