Cheap - and easy YJ brake line mod
« on: January 23, 2008, 06:08:18 AM »
Decided to do something about my front brake lines being too short, so I was going to move them as suggested in Jeffys tech arcticle.   I took a look at them and decided that there was an easier way that didn't include opening up the system.   There is plenty of extra brake line to move them on the outside of the frame, this doesn't require disconnecting the softline from the hardline.  There was a small hole on each side of the frame that worked just right for the alignment tab of the brake line bracket.

1) Remove wheel
2) Remove the torx screw holding the brakeline to the top of the frame
3) carefully pull the line towards you and bend as needed until the bracket alignment tab engages the hole on the side of the frame
4) drill a new hole for the self tapping torx - not sure what size, I grabbed a bit that was close and then wound up wobbling it a little to widen the hole
5) Put the torx back in

Repeat for other side.  The drivers side has less slack, so I did have to unclip the line from the fender bracket so it had enough length.

Total time was about 20 minutes.

I'll take a picture later to show where it wound up.

I did something simular on my TJ front brake lines. I made a extension bracket about a 1 1/2" long drops the hoses down enought to allow serious flex without any stretching of the hoses. Cheap and easy

awww. so you made it so it bolts to the bottom of the side of the frame instead of the top... good stuff... i tend to be to afraid to try to bend rusty metal to do this.. and the bolts are so rusted in i couldn't get them out...
