Smog check?
« on: April 03, 2008, 07:39:33 PM »
I have to have my 97 TJ smogged and the last time I smogged it it barely passed. My ? is. I was told that if it was a bad oxygen sensor my check engine light would come on. So since it has the original cat and muffler I was hoping as long as the boss (wife) say's it's ok I'll replace the cat and do a cat-back.

The Jeep runs like a champ has lots of power and with new 15x8 black cragar soft 8's and BFG 31x10.50 and rock-it maxflow cold-air intake, I have no problems with power, like i see alot of people talk about on this board. I know I'm not running 33x12.50 like most of you.

Also I'm putting on a RE BB lift soon and want to know if anyone has seen the Full Traction 3" lift thats advertised in 4WD.com , it looks like it comes with alot of necessities for only $488 w/o shocks. Will the RE BB shocks be long enough for the 3" lift?

Thank You!

In most states the TJ is checked by its on board computer.  My 97 failed this year and the check engine light was not on.  Found out it was my O2 sensor and the reason the check engine light wasn't one was because it wasn't there.  One of the previous owners had taken the light out instead of fixing the problem.  I wouldn't buy any parts until you fail and then they should give you a print out telling you what parts are bad.
