Hello All,
I have a 97 SE 5 spd, 86k, stock mechanically, 31" bfg's, src front bumper, cheapo turbo type exhaust, etc.
It is my secondary car, so it sits in the garage often.
Most recently, it sat for about 90 days. I had noticed a lifter ticking sound developing before I had stopped driving it, and it was still there when I brought it back to life. I tried Marvel Oil, and it did it's job clearing gunk out, but with the wrong result: the ticking got louder. I assume this firms up the lifter as the culprit.
I like working on stuff, so like a dummy I take it all out. Figured pushrods and lifters are cheap, just swap it all out for new stuff. Order pushrods, as none were available locally, get some sealed power st2011 lifters at Oriellys, and Im off.
Uh oh. The SP(NEW) lifters are .0625" shorter(body height). The grooves are both short by the same distance, so imagine as if the bottom was worn away(for a visual). I hoped maybe the plunger was shallower, making the effective height ok, but nope. It measures .050" shorter.
The plunger is up all the way, btw.
Obviously, if a little wear is ticking, 50 thousanths is gonna really make a racket.
Melling offers a variation of the same part #, so I would expect the same from it,(but DangerZone) would have to order them(none avail. in HOUSTON?).
No Dealer in the Houston area has any OEM, ordering is a week +.
AHHH!!!
Anyone have any input, or similar experiences?
I guess Ill toss two in, when I get the rods in, for sh1t$ and giggles, but I cant imagine it will torque down per spec.
